Qimarox improves accessibility of palletisers

Qimarox has increased the accessibility of its palletisers for operators and service engineers. The manufacturer of components for material handling systems has developed an innovative elevated walkway construction that makes it possible to reach both the pallet and the palletiser in a simple and safe manner to correct pallet stacks or perform maintenance. Attendance — which drew primarily from Pennsylvania (35.5 percent), New Jersey (24.6 percent) and New York (10.3 percent) — surpassed initial projections by 60 percent.
“All you have to do is look at the numbers to see just how well PACK EXPO East met the need for processing and packaging in the Northeast. The show was the top-tier event PACK EXPO exhibitors and attendees expect,” says Jim Pittas, senior vice president, PMMI.

A different kind of show
For PMMI President and CEO Charles D. Yuska, the success of PACK EXPO East 2015, from its location to the attendee and exhibitor experience, validated PMMI’s 2013 conclusion that the market warranted a regional show.
“PMMI is always looking for new ways to achieve our mission to convene the processing and packaging supply chain, and Northeastern manufacturers needed an easier way to connect with leading processing and packaging suppliers,” he says. “Based on initial feedback, I’d say buyers and sellers found PACK EXPO East fostered connections, discussions, and, ultimately, solutions for end users’ operational challenges.”
The strength of PACK EXPO East stemmed from this aspect, says exhibitor Jeff Bigger, president and CEO, Massman Automation, and vice chairman of the PMMI Board of Directors.
“Other regional shows we attend typically include co-located shows. This might give the impression of size, but in reality, the audience directly relevant to our business is much smaller. PACK EXPO East is a processing and packaging equipment show. The entire audience of customers is focused on our technologies, and it showed in the quantity and quality of leads,” he says.
Attendee Ronald Yakubison, director — GTO Packaging Technical Operations, Merck, says that because PACK EXPO East was close to home, his company was able to send larger teams than it does to PACK EXPO Las Vegas or PACK EXPO International.
“A local trade show allows us to give the whole staff the opportunity to attend,” Yakubison says. “In addition, the team reported seeing some things of interest that they may have missed [at a national event], since they typically fill up their time with known suppliers.”

PACK EXPO as classroom
PACK EXPO East also featured Innovation Stage, the on-floor education format that’s become a PACK EXPO standard. With topics as diverse as OEE, sanitary design for low-moisture foods and automation trends, attendees learned more about industry-changing technologies and trends.
Not far from the Innovation Stage, Vanderbilt University, the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) and The Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP) sponsored The Future of Pneumatics. This exhibit showcased advancements in pneumatic technology and demonstrations of the school's pneumatic exhaust gas recovery system, which can reduce air consumption of pneumatic actuators by as much as 25 percent. In another aisle, Rutgers University’s Packaging Engineering program presented student designs for automated loading and unloading systems, custom-order snack mix production and innovative packaging prototypes.

Enthusiasm and anticipation for upcoming shows
With the successful launch of PACK EXPO East, the PACK EXPO portfolio of trade shows now covers the continental United States: PACK EXPO Las Vegas will see its first Pharma EXPO co-location (in partnership with the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering) Sep. 28–30, 2015; PACK EXPO International and Pharma EXPO will return to Chicago Nov. 6–9, 2016; and PACK EXPO East will be back in Philadelphia in February 2017.
“The quality and variety of the attendees, as well as the other exhibitors, gave us an unparalleled opportunity to reach the widest range of prospective customers, business partners and other industry professionals,” says Laura A. Fast and efficient palletising

Qimarox’s Highrunner mk7 is an innovative palletiser that combines the capacity of a conventional palletiser with the flexibility of a palletising robot. Whether it’s boxes with or without covers, trays with or without foil, buckets, crates or jerrycans – the Highrunner mk7 can carefully and accurately position them into any desired pattern and deposit them on the pallet layer by layer. The user-friendly touch screen allows operators to easily select the desired stacking pattern and program new stacking patterns if necessary.

The Highrunner mk7 distinguishes itself in the market with its patented pattern-formation conveyor, which is always located at the same height as the top of the pallet. This allows the layers created on the pattern-formation conveyor to be deposited at lighting speed, which makes for a particularly high capacity. A built-in pallet lift ensures that the pallet drops automatically so that the next layer can be deposited after each layer is deposited. Once a pallet is full, the lift descends to floor level, after which a roller conveyor removes the products.

Integrating multiple Highrunners according to the unique Crossrunner principle results in an extremely compact setup where a single roller conveyor is sufficient for the supply and removal of all pallets, both full and empty. This results in a setup that is able to process large volumes while occupying little space.

Vertical transport and sorting

The Prorunner mk5 is the undisputed eye-catcher at the fair. This elegant product lift works according to the time-honoured paternoster principle, which results in a versatile vertical transport system with a capacity of 2,000 products per hour. Because a single elevator system can be used for both upward and downward product flows, the Prorunner mk5 is ideal for vertical sorting. The standard model of this maintenance friendly and sophisticated product elevator is available for the fixed price of only €6,950, including infeed and outfeed conveyors and safety fencing.

Unlike other continuous product elevators, the Prorunner mk5 can feed products in and out in three directions, without the need for additional equipment. Whether it’s boxes, crates, trays or bags: this clever product elevator transports them all to any desired level and without any critical product transitions. All products are transported horizontally at all times, so that product deformations are excluded.

The Prorunner mk5 has a patented drive system that reduces friction, therefore reducing energy consumption. Because the system keeps itself in balance, the motor only has to propel the product to be transported, and not the product carrier. The system can therefore be operated at a low motor capacity, resulting in considerable savings when compared to other lift systems. Partly for these reasons, Qimarox’s Prorunner product conveyors are used by many OEMs, system integrators and manufacturers of transport systems in various industries around the world.

Robust and compact pallet lift

The Prorunner mk10 – an extremely robust product elevator for pallets of up to 2,000 kg – is the latest product in Qimarox’s range of material handling systems. This product lift can transport up to sixty pallets per hour ten metres upwards. This standardised, modular product lift can be integrated into any end-of-line packaging system or storage system and can furthermore be used in conjunction with the Highrunner mk7, Qimarox’s unique product palletiser.

The Qimarox Prorunner mk10 is based on the design of the successful Prorunner mk9 pallet lift. The most important difference is that the new Prorunner mk10 features four instead of two columns, allowing it to easily transport pallets weighing up to 2,000 kg. The Prorunner mk10 can easily bridge any difference in height between 0.40 and 10 metres. Even at the maximum height difference of 10 metres, the lift can still easily transport sixty pallets per hour with ease. The Prorunner mk10 is equipped with a lifting platform of 1200 x 1200 mm as standard, so that it can handle not only euro pallets, but also product carriers of different sizes such as block pallets.

Thanks to its four-column construction, pallets can be fed in and out on four different sides. It is also possible to use a single machine to supply multiple infeed or outfeed conveyors, so that the lift can also be used for, for example, vertical sorting. Because the lift is constructed out of standard sections, its height can be increased in 250 mm increments. The Prorunner mk10 is constructed using steel instead of aluminium columns, which ensures great stability despite the dynamic forces that occur during operation. Lifting is silent in the Prorunner mk10 because it is taken care of by steel cables in a durable plastic case. Furthermore, unlike when using chains, the steel cables don’t require lubricating or tightening.

Schnell und wirtschaftlich palettieren

Der Highrunner mk7 unterscheidet sich auf dem Markt durch eine patentierte Formierbahn, die sich immer in Höhe der oberen Seite der Palette befindet. Dadurch können die auf der Formierbahn gebildeten Schichten blitzschnell abgelegt werden, was die Kapazität beträchtlich erhöht. Ein eingebauter Palettenlift bewirkt, dass die Palette nach jeder abgelegten Schicht automatisch abgesenkt wird, damit die nächste Schicht abgelegt werden kann. Sobald eine Palette voll ist, senkt sich der Produktförderer auf Bodenniveau ab, woraufhin eine Rollenbahn den Abtransport übernimmt.

Durch die Integration von mehreren Highrunner-Exemplaren nach dem Crossrunner-Prinzip entsteht eine äußerst kompakte Konfiguration, die mit einer einzelnen Rollenbahn für den An- und Abtransport der leeren und vollen Paletten auskommt. Eine Konfiguration, die in der Lage ist, bei geringem Platzbedarf große Volumen zu bewältigen.

Vertikaler Transport und Sortierung

Der unbestrittene Blickfang auf der Messe ist der Prorunner mk5. Dieser elegante Produktförderer nach dem altbekannten Paternoster-Prinzip. Das Ergebnis: ein vielseitiges vertikales Transportsystem mit einer Kapazität von bis zu 2000 Produkten pro Stunde. Weil sowohl für die Aufwärts- als auch für die Abwärtsrichtung des Produktstroms ein einziges Fördersystem ausreicht, ist der Prorunner mk5 hervorragend als vertikales Sortiersystem geeignet. Zu einem Festpreis von € 6.950,= für die Standardausführung liefert Qimarox diesen wartungsfreundlichen und durchdachten Produktförderer inklusive An- und Abtransportbahn und sichere Abschirmung.

Im Gegensatz zu anderen kontinuierlichen Produktförderern kann der Prorunner mk5 ohne ergänzende Vorrichtungen Produkte in drei Richtungen entgegen nehmen und ableiten. Egal ob Kartons, Kisten, Trays oder Sackgut: dieser intelligente Produktförderer befördert alles ohne kritische Produktübergänge auf die gewünschte Ebene. Das Produkt wird immer horizontal transportiert, wodurch eine Verformung des Produktes ausgeschlossen ist.

Der Prorunner mk5 verfügt über ein patentiertes Antriebssystem,  das weniger Reibung verursacht und somit weniger Energie verbraucht. Weil sich das System selbst im Gleichgewicht hält, muss der Motor nur die Last, und nicht auch noch den Lastenträger fortbewegen. Dadurch kann mit einer geringen Motorleistung gearbeitet werden. Das hält die Betriebskosten im Vergleich zu anderen Fördersystemen bemerkenswert gering. Und das ist nur einer von vielen Gründen, warum sich OEM-Hersteller, Systemintegratoren und Transportsystem-Hersteller in verschiedenen Branchen rund um den Globus für die Prorunner-Förderer von Qimarox entscheiden.

Robuster und kompakter Palettenförderer

Das neueste Produkt im Qimarox-Angebot für Materialhandling-Systeme ist der Prorunner mk10: ein äußerst robuster Produktförderer für Paletten bis zu ganzen 2000 kg. Mit diesem Förderer ist es möglich, bis zu 60 Paletten pro Stunde um 10 Meter nach oben zu bewegen. Der standardisierte, modulbasierte Förderer lässt sich in jedes Endverpackungs- bzw. Lagersystem integrieren, kann jedoch auch in Kombination mit dem Highrunner mk7, der einzigartigen Palettiermaschine von Qimarox, verwendet werden.

Der Qimarox Prorunner mk10 basiert auf dem Design des erfolgreichen Palettenförderers Prorunner mk9. Der wichtigste Unterschied besteht darin, dass der neue Prorunner mk10 nunmehr vier statt zwei Säulen besitzt. Dadurch kann dieser extrem robuste Förderer problemlos Paletten mit einem Gewicht von bis zu 2000 kg bewegen. Der Prorunner mk10 kann ohne Schwierigkeiten jeden Höhenunterschied zwischen 0,40 und 10,0 Meter überbrücken. Auch beim maximalen Höhenunterschied von 10,0 Meter ist der Förderer mit einer Kapazität von sechzig Paletten pro Stunde immer noch äußerst schnell. Zur Standardausstattung des Prorunner mk10 gehört eine Hebebühne (1200 x 1200 mm), damit nicht nur Europaletten, sondern auch Ladungsträger mit abweichenden Formaten (z. B. Blockpaletten) bewältigt werden können.

Dank der Konstruktion mit vier Säulen können die Paletten von allen vier Seiten ein- oder ausgeführt werden. Auch ist es möglich, mit einer Maschine mehrere Eingabe- oder Ausgabebahnen zu steuern, so dass der Förderer beispielsweise auch für vertikale Sortiervorgänge eingesetzt werden kann. Weil der Förderer aus Standardeinheiten aufgebaut ist, kann die Höhe in Schritten von 250 mm erhöht werden. Die Konstruktion mit Stahlsäulen statt Aluminiumsäulen gewährleistet ein hohes Maß an Stabilität. Dynamische Kräfte, die sich während der Nutzung entwickeln, stellen kein Problem dar. Die Hebebewegung vollzieht der Prorunner mk10 mithilfe von Stahlseilen in einer verschleißfesten Kunststoffumhüllung. So verläuft der Hebevorgang geräuschlos und im Gegensatz zu Ketten ist Schmieren oder Spannen überflüssig.
